Up for sale is my Cumulus Quantum 450 sleeping bag. Made in the UK, now under the name Criterion Quantum Sleeping Bags.
These lightweight sleeping bags (especially this one) are absolutely stellar and beautifully made with fabulous attention to detail & extremely light weight. If you search for Criterion Down Sleeping Bags UK you will find the site. This bag was one of the earlier ones before the company re-branded to Criterion Sleeping Bags & as such was filled with their absolute highest quality diamond grade polish goose down. Mint - Like New - Have literally used this less than 10 times.
1 of which was testing camping in my garden the others were all during Scottish Winters around Glencoe, Blair Atholl & Torridon. There isn't a mark on it, the zips work perfectly it is nigh on as new as when I got it. The only thing missing is the free stuff sack that came with it (I will keep searching for it, as I think I have it somewhere). It was made of spare pertex, was just slightly too small & was total rubbish. I've had this a few years now & it has always been stored correctly in its mesh bag hung up so there has been no opportunity for the down to loose its loft.
It absolutely lofts like crazy and is as lofty as my Mountain Equipment Lightline jacket but on steroids! It lofts as soon as you take it out the mesh sack and is extremely volumous. These things are highly subjective, but I wanted to at least give you a guide as to how I have found this bag.
Accept when I camp in winter conditions where I've struggled a bit with the cold, see below. Slept in just underwear & didn't have the mummy around my head. Temp got down to -2 in frost, felt a little bit cold so put a t-shirt on & went back to sleep, no issues.
Test 2 - Scottish Winter Glencoe. Temp around 0 slept in the glen as above with a thermarest. No issues at all, in fact a little bit warm & had to open vents in the Akto. Test 3 -Scottish Winter Emergency camping in Blair Atholl in -11 Blizzard Conditions.
Had to make an emergency stop near the falls of Bruar in really nasty blizzard conditions. The roads where closed & spent the night in my tent. The ground was frozen so hard, I could barely get the pegs in. It was really extreme weather with several feet of snow & incredibly cold & wet.
I didn't have the mummy over my head in the Sleeping bag, but it was just very cold all round. I think I not only found the limit of the bag, but for winter camping in general! Test 4 - Scottish Winter in Torridon. Camping in Torridon in cold but still scottish winter conditions. Temperature went so low that my tent froze solid, however I was as snug as a bug inside.
Temp must have been around -5. Dependant upon the conditions I would put the lower limit somewhere around 0 to -4 and the extreme limit at -10 (as advertised). If the conditions where still & you where above the snow line on the mountains this bag would do it, but in more extreme blizzard conditions (as tested by me) where you wouldn't really want to consider camping anyway, I'd recommend additional support, which I'd take with me anyways.
