The only grade higher than this would be if all the components were new or mint. I will describe each components' condition later on in my description. I really struggled with the decision to list this as a new set or a used set. You may find cheaper sets online, but they are much lower quality and certainly are not in as good of condition as this set (you get what you pay for).
The other sellers item descriptions are vague and will leave you confused with what you get, their pictures are of a different set you will get, and you will be disappointed with what they send you. The set here is worth my asking price these are highly sought after in this condition. You want the best: this is the best : The details about the condition of this set are as follows. CONDITION Outer Goose down bag : New looking visually. This one had about 2 where the seam came un-stitched, I sewed this back up this with an industrial machine / thread. There are a couple of very faint small oil stains on the material from my machine (its leaky at times - its from the Army so that is to be expected). Aside from those small flaws and the repair there was no fade, no damage, no flaws, no other repairs (that I could see) , no defects, no other staining, no loose stitching, no dirt or smell.
The previous soldier owners' name is written on the factory label. It was used as there are indications of this, but likely only used once or twice before the stitching came undone.Well taken care of, made in October 2006 and been in storage for almost all of its life. Very puffy and no indication of compression and incorrect storage. No parts / components missing and all look and work just like they would as new. CONDITION Inner Goose down bag: New looking visually. You will notice that the material color is lighter than the outer, this is because in 2002 they changed the factory material to a darker shade.
Even though it is a lighter color it is still in minimal used shape. This one came to me with a small pea sized hole in it, the hole was taped over. I removed the tape and there was a lot of the tape residue left on the material and almost impossible to remove.
I decided to cover the hole and the tape residue with a larger than needed patch, you can see this patch in picture # 5 and a closeup in the last picture. You can see that heavy duty industrial thread was used, its never coming off.
Aside from that there is no fade, no other damage, no other flaws, no other repairs (that I could see), no defects, no staining, no loose stitching, no dirt or smell Soldiers' name is written on the factory label. It was used as there are tiny indications of this, but likely only used once or twice. The factory label is the pre-2002 white type, made in 2001 and been in storage for almost all of its life.CONDITION Flannel liner: Brand new. CONDITION Cadpat compression bag / stuff sack: Brand new. This is a -40 rated sleeping bag set they are able to be used at lower temperatures if needed. Ask any ex-Canadian army member and they can tell you just how good these bags are.
There is nothing worldwide in the market that can compare to these bags. They are the perfect combination of design, materials, practicality, and workmanship. The result is a versatile bag that will keep you warm and comfortable in any weather and environment. The set is a modular system, which means you can use some of the components together or all of the components, or any combination.
When all 3 bag parts are used together you will be warm in -40 temperatures, I know this from my own experience in the Canadian Army in arctic winter exercises in temperatures lower than -50. The design is a combination of a mummy bag and a regular width rectangular shaped sleeping bag the result is a bag that is almost as portable as a mummy bag with the roominess of a square bag. The individual component size is listed below. The goose down insulation and the multiple layers of nylon shell material gives the entire set a weight of 12.4 lbs -or- 5.6 kg.Other bag sets on the market may be lighter but they are no way nearly as warm. The goose down also compresses down well, if the included stuff sack / compression bag is used it is possible to get the set down to an approximate 16 long x 12 diameter (shorter with effort). Other key features of the set include.
Outer down bag size: 74" long x 24" wide at the bottom (outside measurements) & weighs approx 2300 grams. Inner down bag: 72" long x 21" wide at the bottom (outside measurements) & weighs approx 2300 grams.
Flannel liner: 78" long x 25" wide at the bottom (outside measurements) & weighs approx 650 grams. Cadpat stuff sack: laying flat and empty 27" x 19" & weighs 620 grams. Cadpat stuff sack with med tension on the straps & set inside: 16 long (will go shorter with more effort). Double stitching with heavy duty thread almost everywhere. Multiple layers shell material and down compartments.
Quilted design to keel down from bunching up. Tie / loop system to attach components together. Down filled draft flap to insulate along zipper (and keep zipper from touching you). String loops on zipper tabs (tabs on both sides of zippers). Washable cotton liner (down bags are dry clean only).
Military labels attached - with care / use instructions. Tapered top opening to keep draft out and heat in. Each down bags can be used separately in warmer weather. Stuff sack / compression bag has waterproof lining.Stuff sack / compression bag has small pouch / compartment in the lid. Sleeping bag exterior material is not waterproof but liquid will run off easily in case you spill something - can be wiped off.
Care hints: Always store the components by stuffing into the stuff sack - do not roll up and store as this creates memory and compression in the down = less puff. Liner can be washed in cold water and hung dry. Down bags are dry cleaning only if you want to wash it. Stains and dirt can be wiped off with a damp cloth - dryer can be used but on cool settings. To puff up the bag more toss a few tennis balls into the dryer with your down bag. Cloth ties do tend to fray at the ends over time, this is normal - run a small bead of glue along the edge to prevent this. A Goretex cover is not included or offered as part of this listing. You get the set shown in the pictures, and as described - any questions at all before or after the sale I will be happy to answer. The set will arrive un-assembled with the inner down bag at the top, the outer down bag in the middle, with the flannel liner in the bottom. The way I do it is faster and cheaper for you. Canada Post is VERY expensive to use...Dont blame me, I dont set the rates they charge.... I wish there was a cheaper alternative but we are stuck with Canada Post. This is a package that weighs 16 lbs and is 13" x 13" x 17... I may make an exception if you contact me.
